We invite you to read about our Rugby program and to familiarize yourself with our Rugby Mission Statement. This will give you an insight into our approach to the sport at Hudson Park, since our aim is to align our activities and our decision making to the pathways defined in our Mission Statement.
Hudson Park has taken the initiative of investing substantial resources into the development of a winning Rugby culture. The recent appointment of James Winstanley as Director of Rugby has invigorated Rugby at the school, bringing new ideas, a strong philosophy, and a lively competitive spirit to our Rugby Department. Mr Winstanley is himself a former player, having been a member of teams that include Northampton Saints, Blackheath Rugby Club, Old Selbornians, and Border Bulldogs. He arrives with multiple qualifications, and importantly, a knowledge of the game that is set to sharpen our competitiveness for many years to come.
To achieve a consistent Top-20 South African Rugby school status and enhance our position as the leading co-educational Rugby school of
the Eastern Cape, through the systematic development of 4 strategic pathways which aim to create, underpin, measure, and sustain an optimal
playing and coaching environment for all the stakeholders of Hudson Park Rugby.
To develop a panel of players, every year, who are core-skill proficient and capable of recognising, selecting, and executing the appropriate skill set for any given playing environment.
To identify, recruit and develop a panel of coaches who are willing to become champions of a learning culture, and who are also motivated to create the learning opportunities that are needed for enhanced player decision making.
To develop a facility that will enable a conditioning program, and ultimately a conditioning culture, to develop. An environment that rewards effort and commitment towards a balanced and informed approach to conditioning for Rugby.
To facilitate the development of a whole-school Rugby syllabus which defines the schools’ playing philosophy, technical and tactical skill sets, and a common language, so as to achieve collective alignment.
Rugby is the most popular boys’ team sport at Hudson Park, and we have 10 teams competing regularly in domestic fixtures and festivals across the country. Our First Team turns out, every season, for an impressive list of 20 fixtures, whilst the remaining teams each participate in a total of 17 fixtures. By this means, we ensure our ability and willingness to compete at every opportunity. Please click this link to view our 2017 Fixture List.
