Afrikaans

Social Empowerment

Afrikaans is a vibrant language, rich in idiom, literature, music, and culture. It is the third most common language in our country, and in comparison to many other languages, it has simple grammar. Also, its spelling is phonetic, which renders it less complicated than languages such as English.

Afrikaans in the GET Phase is approached in an interactive way. Every effort is made to keep learners actively engaged throughout the lessons, and we impress upon them the value of being comfortable in the language, as South African citizens. Our classrooms provide a 'safe' environment where they can practise reading and speaking.

LANGUAGES

Learners may choose either isiXhosa or Afrikaans as their First Additional Language.

CREATIVE ARTS

We offer tuition in 3 Arts, and learners choose 2 of these upon which to focus.

Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Further Education and Training Phase can be accessed via the menu below.

Writing And Speaking

Our aim is to bring learners to the point where they can express themselves confidently, through both the written and the spoken word, so that Afrikaans will be useful to them in real life situations. Learners enjoy creative activities such as orals and written pieces. They also enjoy reading Afrikaans fiction, with its strong indigenous flavour, and watching Afrikaans educational movies.

Support

Advanced students act as peer-group tutors and are available to help learners where needed. Extra lessons are also provided by one of our Afrikaans teachers.

Career Advantages

Being able to communicate confidently in Afrikaans has benefits for any South African, both socially and in the workplace. Specific careers which require a high level of proficiency in Afrikaans include those of translator, teacher, lawyer, tour guide, politician, actor, journalist, and radio or television presenter.
