Mathematics, in one form or another, is an inescapable part of life. Every day, we must calculate, measure, or make choices based on numbers, and to be capable in this area gives us a distinct advantage. Even if only to avoid being cheated!
Importantly, a good result in Mathemtics opens many doors, especially if pupils want to further their studies in areas such as Engineering, Medicine, Science, and Technology.
Learners may choose either isiXhosa or Afrikaans as their First Additional Language.
We offer tuition in 3 Arts, and learners choose 2 of these upon which to focus.
Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Further Education and Training Phase can be accessed via the menu below.
Plenty of extension activities exist for pupils who excel. These include participation in the the following:
Each pupil requires a Mathematics set in Grade 8 and 9, and anyone planning to continue with Mathematics, from Grade 10 onwards, will also need a non-graphical, non-programmable calculator. Preferably the Casio fx-991-za.
A full range of mathematical resources may be found on the website of the South African Mathematics Foundation.
Peer-tutoring is offered by our most able learners, and extra coaching by various private Mathematics teachers is also available.

In the GET Phase, the foundation is laid for the work which follows in the FET Phase, and an emphasis is placed on learners mastering vital skills associated with mathematical processes, problem solving, and logical thinking. These basics are not revisited in the FET Phase.
A pupil must achieve at least 40% in Mathematics to be promoted to the next grade. A Grade 9 pupil who wants to take Mathematics in Grade 10 - rather than Mathematics Literacy - must achieve at least 60% in Grade 9.
