CAT is a dynamic, constantly changing subject that opens many doors for learners and equips them to utilize the amazing array of tools in our modern world of computers. It develops lateral thinking and creativity, and it brings benefits in all areas of life.
Learners are taught to use many widely-used applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint from the Microsoft Suite. They study the Internet, learn to write HTML, and explore modern phenomena related to hardware, software, networks, and e-commerce. CAT is a fully-accredited subject for university entrance.
These subjects are compulsory for all learners. They should choose one FAL (First Additional Language) and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, for a total of 4 core subjects.
One subject should be chosen from each group, for a total of 3 elective subjects.
Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Further Education and Training Phase can be accessed via the menu below.
Higher order thinking is developed through the study of CAT, alongside proficiency related to:
Apart from their work related to the mastering of various applications, learners are given many practical creative assignments. In these, theory must be put into practice, as seen for example through the coding of their own web pages.
There can be no doubt that proficiency on a computer can give any school-leaver a competitive edge, with regard to both higher education and future employment. For example, Word and Excel will be encountered in almost every walk of life, while Excel and Access are standard tools in Accounting and Engineering fields.
Skills gained while at school will serve a learner well, no matter what his, or her, chosen career might be. They will also lay the foundation for further computer studies associated with careers in Website Design and Development, Software Development, Engineering, Architecture, Science, Technology, and a host of other options.
Each year, our top students participate in the CAT Olympiad. In 2017, in this tough competition, 4 students made it through to Round 2, placing them in the top 10% in the country.
For students who require them, extra lessons are available in the afternoons. Peer-tutoring also takes place during class time.
Hudson Park High has two fully-equipped and networked computer laboratories with access to the Internet.
