The Language Of Learning And Teaching
At Hudson Park, English Home Language is the LOLT (Language Of Learning and Teaching). This means that learners must have a good command of it, in order to progress in their other subjects.
Learners Must Pass English
English is a rewarding subject as it allows for creativity, as well as for stimulating interaction between the educator and the learners. It is the only subject in the FET (Further Educational Training) course that must be passed in order to achieve an NCS (National Curriculum Statement) Certificate.

CORE SUBJECTS
These subjects are compulsory for all learners. They should choose one FAL (First Additional Language) and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, for a total of 4 core subjects.
ELECTIVE SUBJECTS
One subject should be chosen from each group, for a total of 3 elective subjects.

Tips For Learners
- Do not miss school and pay attention in class. Listen to your teachers!
- Study the examination timetable and create a study plan for the year. Stick to your study plan!
- Work systematically through the English syllabus. Read the prescribed books. Use the textbooks, study guides, and internet resources.
- Make notes and mind maps.
- Once you have covered all aspects of the syllabus, work through the examination papers from the past 4 years and become familiar with the structure and format of external papers.
