Life Orientation sets out to equip learners with knowledge, skills, and values that will enrich their lives and help them to become well-adjusted, healthy, and responsible members of society. It is a vital subject for teens, as it broadens not only their perspective but also the range of their capacities and skills. Ultimately, the knowledge and tools which learners acquire in Life Orientation will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.
Critical thinking, debate, and the sharing of opinion is encouraged. Investigation skills are developed through individual and group projects, and topics pertinent to young people are introduced. These include careers, study methods, personal growth, the environment, religion, values, norms, community, and human rights and responsibilities.
These subjects are compulsory for all learners. They should choose one FAL (First Additional Language) and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, for a total of 4 core subjects.
One subject should be chosen from each group, for a total of 3 elective subjects.
Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Further Education and Training Phase can be accessed via the menu below.
Life orientation exposes learners to life's diversity, and it stimulates them to discover unique ways in which they can make a contribution to society, at school and later in life. It can assist them to make good career choices.
For many, the Physical Education component in Life Orientation is a highlight. Ample opportunities are provided in this area, as we support many sporting codes with top-class sporting facilities and specialized staff.
Generally, our learners work together in small groups, as we delve into the various aspects of the Curriculum. We also make a point of one-on-one engagement with them, so as to ensure that they are supported, challenged, and encouraged, according to their abilities.
