EGD is classified as an academic subject, and it is very popular amongst boys as well as girls. In EGD, the student learns to combine creative thinking and drawing skills, so as to be able to solve design problems in Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Technology - and to communicate these solutions as working drawings.
At Hudson Park, EGD is offered in the FET (Further Education and Training) Phase, and space is limited to 40 learners per grade. Acceptance is based on the results of tests to determine aptitude for the subject.
It is advisable for learners who are intending to apply for EGD to prepare themselves by including Technology amongst their Grade 9 subjects. A section of this course is devoted to Drawing, and it will be an excellent preparation for EGD.
These subjects are compulsory for all learners. They should choose one FAL (First Additional Language) and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, for a total of 4 core subjects.
One subject should be chosen from each group, for a total of 3 elective subjects.
Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Further Education and Training Phase can be accessed via the menu below.
Learners are taught different drawing methods and conventions, according to South African National Standards SANS 10111 for Engineering. This includes 4 important objectives, namely accuracy, speed, legibility, and neatness. Learners must have the skill, dedication, and self-discipline to master drawing freehand, with instruments, or with CAD (Computer Aided Design).
Basic and Intermediate instruction in AutoCAD is offered in our Computer Laboratory, to equip learners on CAD.
EGD equips learners with the fundamental knowledge and skills to enter any field in which drawing and design are essential components. A vast range of choices is available, including many in the following fields:
