Visual Arts includes both practical and theoretical components, and learners can choose to specialise in Painting, Graphics, Multi-Media (which includes Photography), Sculpture, or Ceramics. Drawing is taught to all students. The theoretical work involves a broad study of different cultures, belief systems, and political and social issues, with attention to both historical and contemporary trends.
All practical classes in Visual Arts are conducted in the afternoons at Belgravia Art Centre, which has large, well-equipped studios. Hudson Park transports learners to this venue by bus.
These subjects are compulsory for all learners. They should choose one FAL (First Additional Language) and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, for a total of 4 core subjects.
One subject should be chosen from each group, for a total of 3 elective subjects.
Brief notes on the subjects offered at Hudson Park in the Further Education and Training Phase can be accessed via the menu below.
During the course of their studies, the learners acquire technical skills associated with Visual Arts, and they are extended in a multitude of ways as they develop their creative, interpretive, and analytical skills. Areas such as Life Skills and problem solving strengthen, and awareness grows with regard to the environment, political and social issues, cultures, beliefs, and self-knowledge.
To succeed in this subject, learners should have an aptitude for drawing and strong English language skills. They also must be hard-working and keen to take on the challenge of thinking creatively and producing original work.
The Belgravia Art Centre provides specialist Art Educators who assist learners to showcase their work in various exhibitions.
Learners are also guided in producing practical portfolios, such as those which most tertiary institutions require from applicants wishing to enroll for creative courses.
